Google AdSense for Android app stops working

Google stated that AdSense for Android or iOS was “sunsetting” in 2019, and users were told to review their online advertising earnings via the website. The native Android app worked fine up to this week, but now it is dead.

AdSense for iPhone has stopped working on the last day. Regrettably, Google did not include a deprecation notice.

The app opens on 08/13/2021 with a yellow spinner. It eventually switches to “No Data” and the AdSense logo. This logo was never updated to reflect the new style, which uses pill-shaped lines and adds a little green to complement yellow and blue.

You will also receive an “Error occurred. Try again later” toast message. This problem of empty stats is not solved by clearing cache/storage. The app was removed from both the App Stores in April 2020. You can’t delete or reinstall it.

This shutdown was initially supposed to occur two years ago, but it was delayed in typical Google fashion. AdSense for Android, iOS and Google-wifi-app would also be discontinued in 2019 by the company. However, the app continued to work generally up until this week.

AdSense is a great web-based option, and it’s much more modern. However, you don’t have home screen widgets or a handy icon. This creates a shortcut that preserves the regular browser UI.

AdSense for iOS is still in operation. However, Google will likely make any changes to Android’s platform that is made to Android soon.
